On Wednesday November 17th, a beautiful autumn day, the doors finally opened on the new community run shop and cafe in Llangors. The first customers to enter the shop, after  ‘cutting the ribbon’  were Doreen Tranter and Ryley Reed, two notable residents of Llangors. Volunteers, Anne Evans and Alison Eagle, were on hand to help as was the Manager, Becky Bates and the Assistant Manager, Sharon Harris. The shop and cafe are situated adjacent to the Community Centre.

Huge thanks must go to the shop committee who have provided the village with such an essential service and to all the people who volunteer in the shop. It is important that we now use and support this local venture. It is  a lifeline for many residents of Llangors and neighbouring villages. 

A spectacular Tractor Run took place in Llangors, on Saturday, October 2nd. It was organised by local farmers and over 40 tractors were driven around the lanes from Llangors to villages around the lake. It was a wonderful sight despite the wet weather. Many people lined the roads and waved and shouted as the convoy passed by. 

Afterwards there was a highly successful Promise Auction in Llangors Community Centre where many imaginative items were auctioned. Over £4,900 was raised for three charities. £2900.54 was given to Llangors Play Park, £1000 was given to Wales Air Ambulance and £1000 was given to DPJ Foundation, a Welsh Mental Health Awareness Charity. The cheques were presented to representatives of each organisation at The Castle, Llangors on Friday, November 19th. The Play Park sub group are extremely grateful to the local farmers for organising the event and to the generosity of the local people.

Grant Cynorthwyd gan Gronfa Datblygu Cynaliadwy – Parc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog

The Committee of Llangors Youth and Community Centre is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a grant of £840 from the Brecon Beacons National Park Sustainable Development Fund for the replacement of six large double glazed windows.

This work will commence soon with Mark Alder, Window Wizard, Talgarth.

We are extremely grateful to Brecon Beacons National Park for this grant.

Derek Wilmott and Mike Featherstone have made a massive contribution to the Community Centre, and by connection to the community, for more than 20 years in both practical and managerial roles. It wouldn’t be possible to begin to do justice to all their achievements and duties here but as a small token of appreciation a presentation was made to them at this year’s Llangors Youth and Community Centre AGM.

A very successful coffee morning was held in the Community Centre on Thursday, September 16th, in aid of Ryley’s Everest Challenge.Ryley and his family attended the event and mum Kate gave an outline of Ryley’s condition and explained how it has affected his mobility. Ryley decided he wanted to do this challenge not only to aid his recovery, but also to help the children in the village to get a much needed play park by raising funds for it. A grand total of £1006.33 was raised during the morning. Many thanks to everyone who came to the coffee morning and gave so generously.Special thanks go to Ryley and his family, also to Ordrith for selling raffle tickets, Anne and Avril for serving coffees, Ailsa for selling Bric a Brac, Chris for selling cards, Julie and Ryley for selling cakes and Kath for selling plants.Well done Ryley and thank you for raising funds for the play park. We wish Ryley every success in his rehabilitation and fundraising challenge.

The ‘Mike the Spy’ cup and children’s boules event was a great success on Sunday 24th. All ages enjoyed a sunny afternoon of friendly competition and socialising on the old village hall site. We actually played to the proper rules thanks to Gareth Smart and colleague from the Brecon Petanque club who came along to support us. Many thanks to everyone who helped make it happen.
