On October 5th , around 120 friends from the village and beyond came together in the Community Centre to enjoy an evening of wonderful authentic Sri Lankan dishes, including a variety of curries – chicken, cashew nut, bean, cabbage, fried potato, chick pea, aubergine as well as daal, raita, mango chutney and chilli coconut sambal and not to forget the pudding of fresh fruit salad – a feast by anyone’s standard!
We are very grateful to the group of volunteers who came to help to prepare the food for the evening but our main thanks must go to Kumari, Shriani, Sidney and Ailsa for cooking the various tasty dishes. The event could not have happened without these wonderful people.
And the evening would not have been complete without the usual raffle and (in)famous quiz and auction! Thanks to Ordrith and team for selling raffle tickets, Robert for preparing and organising the quiz and everyone for participating in the auction and especially to Gareth for showing us all how it should be done!!
Items for the auction were gratefully received from:
Ollie Greenow, Lawrence Duffy, Peterstone Court, Kim Cruikshank, Kirsty Williams AM, Gliffaes Hotel, Cath Quarrel, Ordrith Quarrell, Melrose East, Robert East, Castle Pub Llangors, Alison Spartshatt @ The Walled Garden, Ann Thomas, Rita Prosser.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to a fabulous evening of food, fun and fundraising. A massive £3,277.26 was raised.
