Happy New Year!
Record crowds braved the frosty but sunny weather to watch the annual Tug of War contest between the two hostelries in Llangors – The Red Lion and The Castle.
The event was hailed in by the chiming of the bells in St Paulinus Church, Llangors, by a group of local bell ringers.
The Tug of War contest commenced at noon with “pulls” across the Cui Bridge in the centre of the village.
The Castle team, competently led by Izaak Duffy, convincingly won the men’s event after 2 pulls. This was followed by a much closer fought contest between the women’s teams with The Red Lion team proving slightly stronger and after three pulls won the contest.
Cups were presented to the Captains of both teams, Izaak Duffy and Freya Morgan, by Melrose East, Chair Llangors Community Centre.
Sweets were given out to all the children who participated in a fun contest at the end.
Everyone retired to the two pubs to enjoy the New Year’s Day celebrations.
Thanks go to Colin Preece, Lawrence Duffy, Robert East and Paul Exton who stewarded
